The Bible tells the story of God and humans. It answers the questions, “Who is God?”, “Who are we?”, and “Does God care about us?” In short, God is the eternal, loving, good, gracious, and sovereign Maker and King over all creation, and humans are persons made by God in His likeness to represent His rule in the world and resemble Him as living, intelligent, moral, creative, and emotional beings.
God and humans enjoyed a harmonious relationship until the first man and woman embraced the lie that God was unreliable and uncaring, and then rebelled against Him. This resulted in the entrance of sin – evil, suffering, guilt, shame, and all the brokenness and discord in the world. From that point on, everyone is a sinner by nature and choice, separated from God and prisoners of death.
God immediately initiated a rescue plan: He made the preparations for the arrival of a Rescuer – a Messiah – who would restore fallen humanity and renew our broken world and cosmos.
In a planned moment in history, the Rescuer came. He was God who became human, and His name was Jesus. He went about doing good and announcing the anticipated news that God’s kingdom has come and we are invited to be a part of it.
He defeated sin and made a way for God and humans to be reconciled when He suffered and sacrificially died on a rugged cross in our place, satisfying God’s lawful justice against our rebellion and completing everything necessary for us to be brought back to God.
The story, however, doesn’t end there. After He died, He was buried, then came back to life. Jesus’ historical resurrection confirms that He is the true Messiah-King and life-giver we need, and that one day, in the future, He will return and restore and renew the created world and cosmos. Evil will be eliminated, suffering will be gone, sadness will be over, and goodness, peace, and joy will last forever.
This is the big story that we are a part of. The God who made you knows and loves you.
He invites you to receive His good news and begin a new, fresh, and never-ending life with Him. The Bible says, “This is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life,” and, “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Respond – start believing and living.
